Prattware pottery Nelson jug, Staffordshire, c. 1798. The jug, moulded with a relief of Nelson holding a trident, accompanied by Neptune, in a large clam shell carriage, drawn by hippocampi. To the sides are further reliefs of Britannia, accompanied by Fame, and Plenty pouring a cornucopia of fruit over the seated Hope. The reliefs are between bands of acanthus leaf moulding to the base, and scrolls to the rim. Coloured in typical Pratt enamels, beneath a pearlware glaze. Height – 17.5 cm, 6 7/8”. Width – 18.5 cm, 7 1/4”. Depth – 14.5 cm, 5 3/4”. Condition – Minor wear to the glaze. No damage. No restoration.
